Hungary, Albania signal intention to relaunch direct flight

Hungary and Albania signed a declaration of intent yesterday on the relaunch of a direct flight between the two countries, according to reports. No direct flight has operated since former Hungarian national carrier Malév was finally grounded in 2012, halting the Budapest-Tirana link.
Wizz Air, the sole bidder for the route, will most probably fly between the two countries.
The declaration of intent was signed in Tirana by Hungaryʼs Minister of National Development Miklós Seszták and Albanian Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Sokol Dervishaj, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.
Should the route be opened, Wizz Air is seen as the most likely candidate to operate flights between the two countries, as the Hungarian low-cost airline was the only party to apply for a concession to operate flights on the route, according to MTI.
The concession contract is being drawn up and flights could start within 180 days of the signing of the contract, Seszták said.
