Titanic International Film Festival

The 20th jubilee Titanic International Film Festival will run between 5-13th April. It gives an overall selection of the best contemporary films. This year 74 films (61 feature films 13 shorts) will be presented of famous and first-film directors as well and it also shows fascinating pieces of less-known regions too. The two flagships of this year’s Titanic are the Irish-section, Emerald Island and Staropramen beer snacks, a selection of contemporary Czech movies. This year’s event brings a new section, The Bright Side that contains six hillarious comedies. There will be 10 films in competition for the Breaking Waves Award to be judged by the jury the head of which is world-famous Czech director Jiři Menzel.

Budapest 100

Budapest100 was launched by Open Society Archives and KÉK Contemporary Architecture Centre to celebrate 100-year-old buildings in Budapest together with volunteers, locals and residents.

The open house weekend gives you the chance to visit not only well-maintained or historic buildings. The program aims at presenting Budapest now and then, often including run-down houses that have been divided into unrecognizable smaller sections. Budapest100 initiates joint thinking about renewal and encourages the creation of coherent residential communities.

A satirist, a scoffer / Honoré Daumier

An exhibition of the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts presenting a selection of Honoré Daumier’s work was extended to April 7, so you can still visit the museum this weekend.

The earliest Daumier prints in the museum’s collection are political caricatures created in the 1830s which were were published in various satirical magazines. The artist mainly aimed at “pear-head” Louis-Philippe, the Citizen King, but also parodied politicians and members of parliament who were in his service. His most well-known caricatures were conceived in defence of the freedom of the press and of speech.

The exhibition comprising a total of 170 sheets besides representing Daumier’s art features also works by some of his contemporaries (Beaumont, Cham, Gavarni and Canzi).

Vaya Con Dios

Vaya con Dios is coming to play their last live concert in Budapest. The band is celebrating their nearly 30 year career with a farewell tour. Don’t miss the last chance to see them live.

The first time she sang onstage, it was in a musical about Jacques Brel. Now, 25 years later Dani Klein, the voice of Vaya Con Dios, is finally putting out her own album in French.It’s a risk she said she would never take. She laughs when she remembers that she once told a journalist that her songs have nearly always been in English because she didn’t want to compete with the great French songwriters. But after two years of non-stop collaboration with top musicians and of waking up in the middle of the night to scribble down just the right word, Comme on est venu… is ready to prove that a powerhouse voice laden with emotion and combined with poetic lyricism carries music far across language borders.

Közös Piac

The common market producer fair is a monthly event held at the Aquarium Klub in the heart of Budapest. Home made goods from jam to cheese to pálinka the products at Közös Piac are all of high quality, and made with special expertise.
