Budapest police have seized close to 155 kg of cocaine with a street value of around HUF 23 billion, the Budapest Police HQ (BRFK) said on police.hu on Tuesday.

Police responded to a report of a masked prowler at the Csepel port in the south of Budapest early on November 11.

Police couldn't find the man after he fled, but they did uncover 155 bricks of cocaine in a refrigerated container the suspect had tried to open. An investigation showed the container had come from Ecuador with a shipment of bananas and traveled through Mexico and Germany before reaching Hungary, where the bananas were unloaded on November 8.

Police detectives are gathering data for the case and have contacted a number of foreign authorities, including the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), for information.
