Budapest Corvinus University students formed the team “Goodwill Transaction Services” which went on to win the regional finals of the CFA Institute Investment Research Challenge organized by the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Hungary (Hungarian Association of Investment Experts) on January 22. The team will now move on to the world finals to be held in Chicago, the press release said.

Participants were required to prepare a full corporate valuation analysis and to demonstrate to the jury, made up of experienced professionals, that they had a sound proposal based on a solid investment portfolio. It was essentially a simulation of a professional presentation in front of potential investors, according to the press release.

“It was an excellent opportunity for students with an interest in financial markets to gain valuable experience applying their academic knowledge to the type of financial analysis members of my research team perform on a regular basis,” William C. Jones, head of Corporate Credit Research at Morgan Stanley’s Budapest office said about hosting the regional finals. “The high quality of their presentations demonstrates the strength of the academic institutions and intellectual talent in Hungary,” he added.

“We have been preparing for this competition for more than half a year. This victory is a fitting end to our university studies and it seemed unbelievable at first. It was worth the hard work and sacrifice. She added that there is no time to rest. “We are very pleased to be getting ready for the world finals, and although we can’t change the professional report at this point, we will work hard on improving our presentation technique,” Welsz said.
