Hungary’s capital city can certainly take pride in its status among international tourism: The 2013 edition of Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards have been released and based on some 1.3 million votes from hobby travelers, Budapest found itself tied for second with Florence, Italy, in the category of “Best City.”

In grabbing a podium spot, Budapest bested old standbys like Rome and Paris handily while also managing to top last year’s champion, Charleston, South Carolina. (Yes, that’s right.) In Condé Nast’s announcement of the results, Budapest was characterized by one voter’s comment which read “Everything about Budapest was entrancing.”

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, was named the best city for travelers in the 26th annual poll. While popular favorites Spain and Italy had their typical good showing – the former placed three locations in the top 25, and the latter two of the top seven – the real winner in country terms may have been Austria, as Salzburg and Vienna landed fourth and seventh, respectively, overall.
