Popularity of far-right Jobbik party leveling off

Party Popularity

The decline of far-right party Jobbik’s popularity came to a standstill in August, according to a survey conducted by Publicis Intézet between August 6-12, and commissioned by newspaper Vasárnapi Hírek, which polled the opinions of 1,100 Hungarian citizens.

Meanwhile, the popularity of all other parties remained virtually unchanged and after an increase over the course of several months, the number of indecisive voters has declined.

Fidesz’s popularity stands at 22%, one percentage point higher than two months ago, but has remained within the range of 21-23% noted in the last 4-5 months.

MSZP’s popularity remained unchanged at 10% during the same period, also within the range of 10-12% noted since the last election. Of the socialist voters, 77% said they would participate in the elections if they were held now – this is the highest number among the leading parties (the lowest being Jobbik’s voters, with participation at 63%).

After several months of steady decline, Jobbik’s popularity is now stagnating at 15%, roughly at where it stood following the last election. LMP and DK would have 3% of the votes today, while PM and the Liberals would have less than 1% and Együtt would have 1% of the votes. The number of indecisive voters has fallen by 3% to 45%, as compared to July.
