Gov't could seek to extend Paks lifespan by 10-20 years
Hungary's government is committed to extending the lifespan of the Paks nuclear power plant, Technology and Industry Minister László Palkovics said in Paks (about 98 km south of the capital) on Friday, after talks with the CEO of the plant's operator, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
Palkovics said the lifespan of the blocks could be extended by between ten and 20 years. All conditions are in place for an extension, he added.
The four blocks at Paks, each with a nominal capacity of 500 MW, were built between 1982 and 1987. Their 30-year lifespans were extended by 20 years between 2012 and 2017.
