Budapest starts designating overnight parking for locals
The designation of overnight parking spots for local residents started in Budapest's central District VI on Monday, the Budapest Public Transportation Center (BKK) said, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
Around 30% of parking spots in the district will be reserved for local residents with a permit between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. in the morning. The spots will be designated with signs.
Parking spots will be designated for residents of Districts V, VII, and XIII, too, in the course of the fall, BKK said.
BKK noted that the practice of reserving parking spots for local residents is common in a number of Western European cities, including Milan, Vienna, Prague, and London.
The center also said it is setting up "microMobility Points" around the city where people can leave their electric rental scooters with the aim of eliminating the "scooter chaos" at present. Those points are expected to become the only locations where riders may leave their scooters after agreements with scooter rental companies are reached, BKK added.
