Budapest inaugurated its landmark Chain Bridge on Friday, after a nearly two-and-a-half-year renovation that cost HUF 26.7 billion, according to a report by news agency MTI.

Mayor Gergely Karácsony said the project had been completed "on time and on budget".

Katalin Walter, the CEO of the Budapest Public Transport Center (BKK), which oversaw the renovation, noted that the bridge had re-opened to city buses, taxis, motorbikes, cyclists, and scooters in December.

A survey of Budapest residents indicated support for maintaining that limited traffic on a permanent basis which will reduce the number of vehicles that cross the bridge each day by 20,000, she added.
