Electricity production in Czech Republic lowest in 18 yrs
Production of electricity in the Czech Republic in 2020 was the lowest in 18 years, the Energy Regulatory Office announced last week, according to a report by Czech Radio.
The figure was 6.4% lower than in 2019 and the lowest since 2002.
Overall electricity consumption dropped by 3.5% to 71.4 TWh (terrawatt-hour), which represents a five-year low. According to the Energy Regulatory Office, the main reason behind the low energy production and consumption is the coronavirus outbreak.
On the contrary, household electricity consumption has been fueled by the pandemic, increasing by nearly 5% year-on-year.
