Hungary's wheat harvest could be around 5.6 million tonnes this year, State Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development Zsolt Feldman said on Friday, commenting on data from the National Agriculture Chamber (NAK), state news wire MTI reports.

With 94% of the wheat harvest completed, the average yield stands at 5.6 tonnes/hectare, Feldman said.

He noted that last year's harvest had reached 4.2 million tonnes, as yields averaged 4.4 tonnes/hectare.

This year's crops of triticale, rye and oats will also be bigger than last year's, with harvests nearing completion, he said.
