Hungary's maize harvest is expected to reach 5.3 million tonnes this year, the Agriculture Ministry said on Thursday, citing the latest data from the National Agriculture Chamber (NAK).

With around one-fifth of the harvest completed, yields are between 5 and 9 tonnes per hectare, the ministry said.

Last year, amid the drought, Hungary's maize crop was just short of 2.8 million tonnes.

NAK puts this year's sunflower seed crop at 2m tonnes with 92pc of the harvest completed.

Last year's sunflower seed crop was a little under 1.3 mln tonnes.
