Hungary's National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) on Thursday said it will extend a subsidies program for the replacement of obsolete 3G mobile telephones until the end of March 2023, while doubling the amount available per handset to HUF 40,000, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The authority is also scrapping the HUF 120,000 price cap on eligible handsets that operate using 4G and 5G networks.

NMHH noted that Magyar Telekom, Hungary's biggest mobile service provider, has already switched off its 3G mobile network, while peers Vodafone and Yettel are in the process of phasing out their 3G networks.
