NAK Protests EFSA Recommendations on Poultry Farming

Implementing animal welfare regulations in a new study by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) could "seriously harm" poultry and egg farmers, Hungary's National Agriculture Chamber (NAK) said on Friday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
The recommendations, which include ones on eliminating the use of cages and reducing stocking density, focus only on animal welfare while failing to take into account environmental, economic, and social consequences, NAK said.
Adopting the recommendations could keep the farm and food industry from fulfilling the task of supplying consumers with a sufficient volume of quality products that are safe, affordable, and environmentally sustainable, it added.
NAK and the Poultry Products Council are "firmly against" the recommendations, NAK said.
