Ministers See 'Breakthrough' on Erasmus Matter by End of Fall
Regional Development Minister Tibor Navracsics and European Union Affairs Minister János Bóka augured a "breakthrough" in negotiations on the Erasmus scholarship program and said matters could be resolved by the end of fall after talks with European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn in Brussels on Wednesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
Navracsics said the sides had agreed that talks needed to be accelerated and technical issues resolved to reach an agreement by the end of November.
The talks on Wednesday show the EC is "more flexible than earlier", even on matters in which it takes a different position than the Hungarian government, he said, adding that those matters weren't "really related to membership on university boards of trustees".
Erasmus scholarship funding for Hungary has been suspended over concerns related to the makeup of membership on university boards of trustees.
