Hungary May be Ready for Euro by End-2024 - Kovács

By the end of next year, Hungary could fulfill the conditions for the introduction of the euro, said Árpád Kovács, President of the Budget Council, according to business daily Világgazdaság.
Hungary could fulfill the Maastricht criteria necessary for the introduction of the euro by the end of 2024, the chairman of the Budget Council said at the 53rd delegate meeting of the Fejér County Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Székesfehérvár (65 km southwest of Budapest).
In his presentation, the former head of the State Audit Office said that the consumer price index was 25.4% in February but could fall to around 3% by the summer of 2024, while the public debt would fall well below 70% by the end of next year.
The public budget deficit could be around 2.9%.
