Managing demographic challenges will be among the priorities of Hungary's presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2024, Minister of Justice Judit Varga said in Strasbourg this week, according to the conservative daily paper Magyar Nemzet.

After a meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola to outline the priorities, Varga said Hungary would propose that the EU Treaties deal with family policy and that such policy be allocated EU funding.

"The European Union needs to support family policy, too, not just migration," she added.

Enlargement will also be part of Hungary's program when it takes over the rotating presidency, she said. "Serbia needs to become part of the European community," Varga added.
