The record for the largest daily amount of rain was broken on Friday, the National Meteorological Service wrote on its website.

The record for the strongest wind was also broken both in the capital and nationally. Some 80.5 millimeters were measured at the meteorological station in Kékestető (100 km northeast of Budapest), breaking the record for the highest precipitation for that day.

The passing cyclone was also accompanied by stormy, sometimes very stormy, wind gusts in several places, as a result of which two new daily wind records were set.

A wind gust of 121 kilometers per hour was measured in Balatonszemes (135 km southwest of Budapest), which broke the national speed record of 113 kilometers per hour measured on Kab-hegy in 2012 for the same day.

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.

We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
