Weather

Hungary reported 2022 as the hottest summer in 121 years of records, with median temperatures reaching 22.8°C (73.04°F), two degrees hotter than the average between 1901 and 2020, the National Meteorological Service said in a post on its Facebook page.

The weather service said in those years, the average summer temperature in the country had reached 20.8°C (69.44°F).

While many parts of the country saw temperatures not seen since 1901, the highest daily temperature of 41.5°C (106.7°F) was recorded in Kiskunfélegyháza (110 km southeast of Budapest) and Hódmezővásárhely (170 km southeast).

According to the statement, droughts were also seen throughout the country due to soaring temperatures, and the average precipitation, which was 20.35 cm (8.01 inches) between 1991 and 2020, fell to 13.73 cm (5.40 inches) in the summer of 2022.
