The General Congress of World Aquatics, the world governing body for aquatics formerly known as Fina, approved a decision to relocate the federation's headquarters from Lausanne to Budapest during the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka on Tuesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

This is a move that will put athletes at the center of our headquarters, in a training center. It will also save significant sums of money that can be invested in our athletes," World Aquatics president Husain Al-Musallam said.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó delivered a speech at the event and a film on the plans for the Budapest HQ was shown. He noted that Hungary had hosted the aquatics worlds in 2017 and 2021, and would host again in 2027.

World Aquatics and Hungary signed a memorandum of understanding on the HQ move in May.
